Saudi Arabia Reopens Umrah Visas After Successful Hajj Season
Saudi Arabia has announced the resumption of Umrah visas starting Tuesday, June 10, 2025, allowing Muslims worldwide to once again embark on the spiritual journey to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina. This decision follows the successful completion of this year’s Hajj pilgrimage, which was praised for its smooth organization and high safety standards.
New Umrah Season Begins
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah confirmed that the new Umrah season will officially start on June 11, 2025 (14 Dhul Hijjah 1446), with the first group of international pilgrims expected to arrive in the Kingdom. The visa application process opens a day earlier, on June 10, giving worshippers the opportunity to plan their trips in advance.
To ensure a well-organized pilgrimage, the ministry had instructed Umrah travel agencies and international service providers to finalize their contracts by May 27 (29 Dhul Qadah 1446). This step helps streamline operations and improve the overall experience for pilgrims.
Umrah: A Year-Round Spiritual Journey
Unlike Hajj, which has fixed dates in the Islamic calendar, Umrah can be performed at any time of the year. The new Umrah season will continue until 2026 (1447H), with Saudi authorities expected to release further details on pilgrim quotas, travel regulations, and health guidelines in the coming months.
Temporary Visa Pause for Hajj Preparations
Saudi Arabia follows a long-standing tradition of halting Umrah visa issuance in the weeks leading up to Hajj. This temporary pause allows the government to focus on managing the millions of Hajj pilgrims who gather in Mecca for the annual pilgrimage. This year’s Hajj saw over 1.6 million worshippers from across the globe, marking another milestone in Saudi Arabia’s efforts to enhance pilgrimage services.
What Pilgrims Can Expect
With Umrah visas now available, Muslims can begin planning their spiritual trips. The Saudi government continues to invest in better infrastructure, digital services, and crowd management to ensure a safe and fulfilling experience for all visitors.
As the new season begins, pilgrims are encouraged to stay updated on the latest travel requirements and book their trips through authorized Umrah agencies to avoid any delays or complications.
This reopening marks another step in Saudi Arabia’s commitment to serving Islam’s holy sites and welcoming believers from around the world.
